UPZ Baznas Masjid Jami Kaliyoso is Authorized
Zakat (alms-giving) is the third pillar of Islam. It is a compulsory giving of a set proportion of one’s wealth to charity. Zakat is a form of religious obligation or tax that must be issued by people who are Muslims and given to people who have the right and eligibility to receive it. The person who is in charge of managing the zakat is called Amil, the person who is obliged to pay zakat who has reached nishab (minimum amount) and the haul (minimum period of time) is called Muzakki, while those who are entitled to receive zakat are called Mustahik. The role of zakat is very important especially in order to creating a system of economic equality of the people and a solution to eradicating poverty. Poverty has been a long-time issue that has no answer to diminish it until now. That being said, it would be great if, as good citizens, can help the government to help those in need by issuing zakat in an orderly manner.
With the help from National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), the process of collection and distribution of zakat has become more effective, efficient and productive. This can be seen when the BAZNAS of Sragen Regency forms Zakat Management Unit (UPZ) of Masjid Jami’ Kaliyoso Jogopaten which is part of the BAZNAS system and institutional structure of Sragen Regency which has the role of socializing, collecting, and collaborating with BAZNAS Sragen Regency in the charity and alms giving.
Therefore, people living in the outer area of Kaliyoso who are willing to give zakat can do it through Masjid Jami’ Kaliyoso Jogopaten. Among the motivation to do so is that Moslems understand that zakat aims to cleanse our property and wealth, as a complement to worship, and as an effort to overcome social problems. The management of zakat in Kaliyoso is increasingly growing rapidly so that from the BAZNAS Sragen Regency officially added the UPZ at the Jami Masjid Jami’ Kaliyoso Jogopaten.
